Daniel Giddens Named Acting Assistant Secretary of the Division of Workforce Solutions Governor Cooper appoints Kevin Trapani as NCWorks Commission

Governor Roy Cooper and Department of Commerce Secretary Anthony M. Copeland made two appointments in the state’s workforce commission and division. Daniel (Danny) Giddens will serve as the Commerce Department’s Acting Assistant Secretary of the Division of Workforce Solutions (DWS). Kevin A. Trapani has been appointed to the NCWorks Commission and will serve as chair of the Commission.

Danny Giddens will guide the department’s efforts to help people in North Carolina find jobs and help businesses find talent. DWS administers a statewide system of workforce programs that prepare North Carolina’s citizens for employment and helps businesses find the talent they need to thrive. 

Most recently, Giddens served as Director of Field Operations at DWS. In that capacity, he provided policy direction and strategic oversight to Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Title I, Trade Act, Title III Employment Services, Special Programs, and Management Information System activities within the Division. 

Before coming to North Carolina in 2001, Giddens had more than 15 years’ experience as the director of a local Workforce Development Board in Georgia.

A graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University, Giddens has a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Master of Science degree in Business Management.

Governor Roy Cooper also appointed Kevin A. Trapani to the NCWorks Commission and named him chair of the commission. 

Trapani is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Redwoods Group, an insurance provider dedicated to protecting YMCAs, Jewish Community Centers and nonprofit resident camps around the nation. He also is president of The Redwoods Group Foundation. Prior to forming The Redwoods Group in 1997, Trapani was executive vice president of Burlington Insurance Group, and held senior positions at Coregis Insurance Group, Great American Insurance Companies and the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies.
