Executive Director of Strategic Planning Bob Collins

Bob Collins serves as Executive Director of Strategic Planning for the North Carolina Department of Commerce.  Previously, he served as Disaster Recovery Section Chief for the Department of Commerce, supporting the Hurricane Matthew CDBG-DR Disaster Recovery Program.

Prior to joining the Department of Commerce, Bob has had over thirty years of progressive leadership roles in both large international and early-stage companies, focused on development and commercialization of advanced technologies.  In these roles, he successfully developed and led execution of commercial programs valued from under $1 million to over $150 million in industrial, high technology, aerospace, digital imaging, and government global markets. As a senior management team member of a venture capital-funded early-stage company, was a strong contributor to its acquisition by a global public company with annual sales exceeding $1 billion.

Bob earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a BS in Computer Science from North Carolina State University.  He retired with 28 years of service from the United States Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel.  Bob currently serves as an executive-in-residence mentoring graduate student teams for the Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization program, Poole College of Management, North Carolina State University.
