Workforce Investment Act
The federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
is the nation’s principal workforce development legislation, providing funds to address the employment and training needs of adults, dislocated workers and youth.
WIA creates a comprehensive workforce investment system. In North Carolina, NCWorks Career Centers
provide job seekers access to tools they need to help manage their careers. Local workforce offices also help businesses
connect with skilled workers.
There are 23 local Workforce Development Boards
that are responsible for program policy and oversight of Career Centers in their respective areas. Representatives from the business community comprise the majority of each Board’s membership.
