What is the difference between the apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs?

Apprenticeship requires participants to participate in both classroom and on-the-job training; pre-apprenticeship gives its participants the option of choosing one or both. Pre-apprenticeship is also a shorter training program.

How long has North Carolina offered apprenticeship programs?

The bureau was established in North Carolina in 1939. Since 2008, more than 18,400 individuals, including 6,400 veterans, have completed the program. Since that time, 1,825 employers have participated in the program in North Carolina. In 2014, the Apprenticeship and Training Bureau officially joined the Department of Commerce.

In the United States today, nearly 40,000 employers offer apprenticeship training to approximately 325,000 apprentices, including minorities, women, youth and dislocated workers.
