2012 N.C. State Fair Wine Competition
The North Carolina State Fair invites you to enter the 2012 NC State Fair Amateur Wine Competition. The competition will be held in October 2012, and includes amateur and commercial divisions. The amateur division is open only to amateur winemakers in North Carolina, while the commercial competition is open only to North Carolina wineries. The deadline to enter your wine in the competition is Friday, September 7.
Experienced judges have been selected that are familiar with Vinifera, French-American hybrids, Labrusca, Muscadine and fruit wines. Entries are free for the amateur competition, and one entry is allowed per wine category per person. Judges will award ribbons and premiums to first, second and third place winners. In the commercial competition, judges will award medals based on merit, along with trophies for Best of Show and Best of Muscadine. There is a $20 fee per wine entered in the commercial competition. Please make entry fees payable to the NC State Fair.

Entries will be accepted beginning Monday, August 20 with a deadline of Friday, September 7.

2011 N.C. State Fair Wine Competition
RayLen Vineyards & Winery won the N.C. Winegrowers Cup for best of show and Cypress Bend Vineyards took home the N.C. Muscadine Cup in the 2011 North Carolina State Fair Wine Competition. The 12th annual wine competition was held October 5-6 in Raleigh, featuring 444 wines competing in the commercial division and 94 wines in the amateur division.
RayLen Vineyards & Winery, in Mocksville, claimed the N.C. Winegrowers Cup (Best of Show) for the first time with its Cabernet Sauvignon. Cypress Bend Vineyards, in Wagram, won the N.C. Muscadine Cup (Best of Muscadine) with its McNeill white muscadine wine. This marks the second cup for Cypress Bend, who’s now won twice in the last three years. Childress Vineyards, in Lexington, received the most awards in the competition with 34 medals. The commercial competition was open to all North Carolina wineries, and the judges awarded 343 medals overall with 28 double gold, 26 gold, 128 silver, and 161 bronze medals.
The amateur wine competition featured North Carolina hobbyist winemakers, and awarded ribbons to first, second and third place, and honorable mention winners for each category of wine. Best of Show was awarded to Daisy King, from Pinnacle, for her Blackberry Dessert wine. This is King’s second victory in the last three years, and she claimed a total of five first place awards in this year’s competition.
The top winners from the commercial and amateur wine competition will be on display at the 2011 North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh from October 13-23.

2010 N.C. State Fair Wine Competition
Childress Vineyards won Best of Show and Sanders Ridge Vineyard & Winery took home the Muscadine Cup in the 2010 North Carolina State Fair Wine Competition on October 6-7 in Raleigh. Best of Show honors in the amateur competition was awarded to Robert Moncsko, from Cary, for his Bobcin-Chambourcin.
