The Division's Public Relations team works to target consumer and trade editorial media contacts through multiple media outreach tactics, including electronic releases, one-on-one pitching, desk visits, media missions with partners and media familiarization tours to achieve diverse media placements reaching audiences on national and regional levels. Public Relations efforts promote North Carolina as a premier travel destination and have generated placements in media outlets ranging from the New York Times to Southern Living magazine, London's News of the World newspaper and the Toronto Sun.
For 2012-13, the Division will host travel writers on both group and individual press tours throughout the state. In addition, the Division plans to lead media missions to nearby cities plus New York, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
The Public Relations department also receives and distributes press releases on travel-related topics including:
- What's new in North Carolina
- Important anniversaries
- Fall and spring forecasts
- Story ideas
- Festivals and events across the state
