Small Business Ombudsman Christine Ryan
Christine Ryan began serving as the Small Business Ombudsman in the summer of 2011. As Small Business Ombudsman, Christine reports directly to the Commissioner for Small Business, Scott Daugherty, and works with senior staff at the Department of Commerce. As Small Business Ombudsman, she is responsible for investigating and responding to issues and concerns raised by business owners regarding rules and regulations that are interfering with business operations. Christine also works directly with representatives of agencies across state government to ensure that businesses receive timely and accurate information regarding licensing, permits and other government services.
Immediately prior to joining Commerce, Christine was a small business owner of a solo law practice in the Triangle area. She previously worked for the Attorney General’s Office, primarily in the Consumer Protection Division. Christine has a BA from Fairfield University, a law degree from Wake Forest School of Law, and an MS from UNC-Chapel Hill.
