North Carolina is a member state of the Southeast U.S./Japan Association, and the organization's annual conference will be held in October at the new Raleigh Convention Center. As many as 500 business and government leaders from Japan and the southeastern United States will convene in Raleigh, offering a rare opportunity to build relationships with key international leaders across a wide spectrum of business and industry. Conference delegates will also enjoy the opportunity to experience the hospitality and natural beauty of North Carolina.
What Is The Southeast U.S./Japan Association?
Created in 1976, the Southeast U.S./Japan Association ("SEUS/Japan") was established to promote trade, investment, understanding and friendship between Japan and member states of the southeast U.S. Member states of SEUS/ Japan are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia and include delegates from both the private and public sectors.
SEUS/Japan has a Japanese counterpart, the Japan-U.S. Southeast Association. The Japanese organization's membership includes Japan's top business leaders and government officials. An annual conference between the two associations is held on a rotational basis in Japan and the souteastern U.S. Also, on a rotational basis, each of the eight states serves as "Host and Co-Host State" for a two-year term and assumes leadership of SEUS/Japan during that period. Florida hosted the last U.S. joint meeting in Orlando in 2006. North Carolina last hosted the event in Charlotte in 1994.
