North Carolina's workforce is one of its most critical competitive advantages. The State has a highly skilled labor force across many industries and sectors. Understanding the condition of the workforce and how it aligns with the transitioning economy in the State is essential. The State of the Workforce Reports detail current conditions and examines future workforce projections.
Every year Commerce studies national, statewide, and local economic trends to produce long term and short term occupational projections for state and sub-state areas. Based on historical data, these projections provide a guide for how the state occupational landscape may develop given the current economic trends. The current projections cover the years 2010 to 2020 for approximately 900 occupations. Note: The occupational projections are only estimates based on previous occupational and industry trends, not predictions or forecasts of future employment. More information on the projections and how they are produced can be found here. For other questions send us an email.
