Utility Savings Initiative General Statutes

The Utility Savings Initiative is a state-mandated program created to help North Carolina public facilities reduce their use of energy, water and other utilities. Please see the General Statutes below for more information.

§ 143 64.10. Findings; policy
(6) That State government shall undertake a program to reduce the use of energy, water, and other utilities in State facilities and facilities of the State institutions of higher learning and equipment in those facilities in order to provide its citizens with an example of energy use, water use, and utility use efficiency.

§ 143 64.12. Authority and duties of the Department; State agencies and State institutions of higher learning.
(a) The Department of Commerce through the State Energy Office shall develop a comprehensive program to manage energy, water, and other utility use for State agencies and State institutions of higher learning and shall update this program annually.

(j) The State Energy Office shall submit a report by December 1 of each year to the Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations describing the comprehensive program to manage energy, water, and other utility use for State agencies and State institutions of higher learning required by subsection (a) of this section.
