North Carolina Tourism Day May 13
In conjunction with National Tourism Week, (May 10-18) North Carolina Tourism Day is May 13, 2008 in downtown Raleigh.
Beginning at 10 a.m. at the Legislative Building, the North Carolina Travel Industry Association (NCTIA) is coordinating with attractions and destinations across the state to set up exhibits in the four quadrants of the Legislative Building. Lawmakers and leaders will have the chance to meet local tourism industry leaders throughout the day as they walk the halls between sessions.
NCTIA is coordinating a private reception for legislators from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Museum of History to showcase the important contribution that travel and tourism makes to the state’s economy. The reception is a ticketed event. If you are interested in exhibiting or sponsoring the reception, contact Vince Chelena at (704) 333-3234 or at vince@themanagementoffice.com. State government agencies interested in exhibiting at Legislative Building can contact Lynn Lewis at lynn@originnalwashington.com. Ticket cost and sponsorship information for the day’s events is available at www.seenc.org.
In addition to the displays inside the Legislative Building, Visit Charlotte is coordinating NASCAR House vs. Senate Pit Crew Challenge at 2 p.m. in front of the Science Museum on Jones Street.
Also, the Division will mark National Tourism Week with
activities at the N.C. Welcome Centers.
To assist in planning for N.C. Tourism Day and the week-long Tourism Week activities, the Division has created a Web page to aid tourism-related entities around the state in their preparation for their own, localized Tourism Day festivities and tourism awareness campaigns. The site provides updated state and national quick facts, a sample proclamation for locally elected officials, sample press releases, and other ideas on how to spread the word about tourism’s impact on our economy. For details, visit our Tourism Week web page.
