North Carolina Wine & Grape Appreciation Month

Governor Bev Perdue has proclaimed September 2010 as North Carolina Wine and Grape Appreciation Month.  Gov. Perdue recognizes the importance of the wine and grape industry to the state and encourages the public to help support local wineries during appreciation month.  Gov. Perdue also urges restaurants and retailers to support the industry.

The council encourages wineries to celebrate Wine and Grape Appreciation Month, and invites them to participate in Grape Day at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh on Friday, Sept. 10.

Web Sites - VisitNCwine.com and VisitNC.com

If your winery is open and approved by the NC Wine & Grape Council, it will be included on the wine consumer website www.visitNCwine.com and the state's tourism site www.visitNC.com.  Your winery can also post its special events the statewide tourism calendar found on both sites.  To update your winery information and events on visitNCwine.com and visitNC.com, wineries must contact their county's representative.  View the list of Extranet Contacts to find your representative.

 

 

Highway Signage

Wineries and vineyards can participate in the Agricultural Tourism Highway Signs Program that directs tourists to N.C. agricultural venues that are open to the public for tours and on-site sales or samples of North Carolina agricultural products.  The signs program is authorized by N.C. General Statute 106-22.5, and is a collaborative effort of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) and the N.C. Department of Transportation (DOT).

To be eligible for the highway signs program, businesses must be open to the public a minimum of ten (10) months per year, four (4) days per week for a minimum of 32 business hours.  Estimates on costs of signs can vary by location.  For more information, visit the Agricultural Tourism Highway Signs Program or contact:

Cooperative Advertising Programs

The N.C. Wine and Grape Council offers wineries cooperative advertising opportunities for indoor and outdoor advertising.  For details on the program, please contact Bill Porter of Big Shots at porterwp@triad.rr.com.
