Energy and ARC

Information on Energy Efficiency and Alternative Energy

North Carolina has made significant investments of state resources in developing energy efficiency and in promoting and using alternative energy. The NC ARC Program is working to begin a partnership with the NC Green Business Fund, NC Energy Office, and the Energy Office at Appalachian State University to promote the initiatives identified in the Energy Blueprint.

Below are links to local and national organizations that focus on alternative energy and energy efficiency and the NC Green Economy Resource Directory, which was created by Sara Day Evans with the NC Department of Commerce's Division of Community Assistance, 21st Century Communities Program, and with support from R.V. Rikard with the NC Board of Science and Technology.

Energy Efficiency in Appalachia

Prepared for ARC by the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance, March 2009

Energy Efficiency in Appalachia is an assessment of the potential long-term energy efficiency gains for the Appalachian Region over current baseline projections from introducing a range of advanced efficiency standards for each energy end-use sector, and to detail the economic and environmental impacts from the technologies and investment required to attain these objectives.  It addresses several essential questions:

• How big are the energy-efficiency resources in Appalachia?

• How quickly can these energy-efficiency resources be realized?

• What policies and programs can most effectively translate these resources into energy savings?

• What impact will such policies and programs have on jobs and wages in Appalachia?
