Community Investment Report Database

The Community Investment Report Database has recently been redesigned to better capture information and to ensure quality standards of data collection regarding project submissions.

What is the Community Investment Report (CIR) Database?

The Community Investment Report (CIR) Database is a comprehensive collection of economic development announcements for capital investment and job creation in North Carolina. Information is also collected for projects associated with infrastructure development.  Entries include location of the project, company name, product manufactured or services performed, jobs created, amount of capital investment, NAICS code, type of facility, square footage, project stage of development, parent company information, etc.

Who can submit information to the CIR Database?

Information for the database is submitted online by a broad range of members of the economic development community, including business owners, local economic developers, regional economic development partnerships, N.C. Dept. of Commerce economic developers, and news organizations.  All CIR information is reviewed and verified by both internal and external sources before being accepted into the system.

How are the data used?

The data are used for Site Selection Magazine’s competitive business climate awards and state rankings.  The North Carolina Department of Commerce generates reports from the CIR Database according to qualifying criteria produced annually by Site Selection.  Additionally, the information in the CIR Database is used for N.C. Dept. of Commerce reporting, legislative requests, industry analyses, and other various information requests.
