Recycling Business Assistance

A variety of funding opportunities are available to businesses involved with recycling in North Carolina, including grants, tax credits and loans.

North Carolina’s recycling economy employs more than 14,000 people across the state and is one of the fastest growing job sectors.  Making products from recovered materials saves energy, water, reduces air pollution and decreases demands on our natural resources.

While the Recycling Business Assistance Center (RBAC) does not lend money directly, you can find information on their website on loan types and agencies available to recycling businesses including:

• RBAC’s Recycling Business Development Grants - The purpose of this program is to reduce the flow of solid waste to disposal facilities and encourage the sustainable recovery of materials from North Carolina’s waste stream.
• Loans for recycling companies –  These funds are available through the N.C. Loan Recycling Loan Fund and the Small Business Administration.
• N.C. Recycling Tax Credits  -- Managed by the N.C. Division of Waste Management, the Tax Certification Program  offers a tax exemption on equipment and facilities used exclusively for recycling and resource recovery.
• Other financing sources and information –  State and federal partner agencies and other organizations provide additional funding sources and information for recycling businesses.
