North Carolina has the 9th largest international presence in the United States, with firms hailing from more than 30 counties around the globe. 

 

The foreign-owned firms in North Carolina conduct business in a mixture of industries:  biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and life science; chemicals, rubber and plastics; furniture; information and communication technologies, military/ aerospace; motor vehicles and heavy equipmen; and apparel and textiles.   Foreign-owned firms in North Carolina are involved in activities such as: sales, warehousing, distribution,  manufacturing, and research and development.  In addition, many U.S. and regional headquarters are also based in the state.
