Main Street Solutions Fund
The purpose of the fund is to provide maximum support to small businesses in designated micropolitans located in Tier 2 and Tier 3 counties and/or in designated North Carolina Main Street communities. The grants will be used to assist planning agencies and small businesses with efforts to revitalize downtowns by creating jobs, funding infrastructure improvements and rehabilitating buildings.
In round one of the Main Street Solutions Fund program, 6 communities were awarded grant funds. For every $1 invested by the state, an additional $5.89 will be invested by the local community.
Twenty-three small businesses will directly benefit from Main Street Solutions grants. Those businesses will create or retain a minimum of 147 permanent full-time and part-time jobs.
In round two of the Main Street Solutions Fund program, 13 communities were awarded grant funds. For every $1 invested by the state, an additional $4.41 will be invested by the local community.
Thirty-four small businesses will directly benefit from Main Street Solutions grants. Those businesses will create or retain a minimum of 242 permanent full-time and part-time jobs.

MSSF Grant Application Workshop
The Urban Development Division within the N.C. Department of Commerce’s Division of Community Development would like to announce another round of the Main Street Solutions Fund (MSSF). We will be hosting a workshop for eligible applicants on Thursday, May 24 from 1p.m.-3p.m. at our offices, located at 100 East Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. The workshop is mandatory for anyone who is interested in applying and Did Not attend one of the two workshops in October 2011, or has an open MSSF grant. All attendees must RSVP to Ben Murphrey at 919-571-4900 or bmurphrey@nccommerce.com before May 24, if they plan to attend this workshop.
We will accept applications from:
· Eligible communities that DO NOT have an open MSSF grant; or
· A community that has an open MSSF grant that did not receive the maximum grant award ($200,000) and would like to expand their existing grant awarded project. We will not award funds to a second project in a community that already has an open grant.
This round of the MSSF is an open-ended round of funds; applications will accepted at any time following the workshop. Grants will be awarded on a “first come, first served” basis until remaining funds have been exhausted. Limited funds are available -- approximately 2-5 grants. The guidelines for the MSSF will remain as they were in 2010-2011 (below).
