N.C. Main Street Communities
Since 1980, the N.C. Main Street Center has selected new communities every 2-3 years, and there are currently 61 designated Main Street towns and cities across the state.
1980: New Bern, Salisbury, Shelby, Tarboro, Washington
1982: Clinton, Morganton, Statesville, Rocky Mount, Wilson
1984: Goldsboro, Kinston, Reidsville, Sanford, Wadesboro
1986: Henderson, Hendersonville, Lenoir, Smithfield, Waynesville
1988: Burlington, Elizabeth City, Lumberton, Mooresville, Mt. Airy
