Scattered Site Housing grants are made to county governments for very low-income families

Scattered Site Housing (SSH) grants enable local governments to address the most critical housing needs of very low income families (incomes at or below 50% of the area median income) throughout the county including participating municipalities. Grants are made to approximately 33 county governments on a non-competative rotating basis.
In 2011, eligible participants include the following 33 counties and their interested non-entitlement municipalities: Alexander, Ashe, Bertie, Bladen, Camden, Caswell, Clay, Columbus, Currituck, Dare, Durham, Franklin, Gaston, Gates, Halifax, Harnett, Haywood, Henderson, Lee, Madison, Montgomery, Northampton, Onslow, Pender, Person, Polk, Rowan, Scotland, Surry, Transylvania, Warren, Wayne, and Yancey.
Maximum Amounts: County governments receive $400,000 every three years with funds targeted to very low-income homeowners for rehabilitation or relocation purposes. This grant amount includes 10% for administration and $7,000 for planning. Applications can also use up to 10% for an emergency repair local option.
Applications and Guidelines: Counties must submit a detailed plan that includes input from all interested municipalities within the county describing how funds will be distributed to meet housing needs.
Eligible activities include housing rehabilitation, substantial rehabilitation, relocation/clearance, reconstruction, and emergency repair. All units proposed for assistance must be selected and identified in the application.
