PRO News and Announcements
Piedmont Regional Office (PRO) staff recently completed work on the Mitchell River Small Area Plan for Surry County. The Mitchell River is classified as an outstanding water source and Mitchell River area residents were concerned about potential negative effects that future development might have on the area. Three goals of the Mitchell River Small Area Plan are to manage future growth and development, maintain water quality, and protect scenic views. PRO staff provided facilitation and technical assistance in cooperation with the Surry County Planning Department throughout the duration of the project.
The Piedmont Regional Office has also completed work on several other projects. Among the projects, PRO staff assisted the Towns of Dobson, Ramseur, and Stanfield with major revisions to their land use regulations. PRO staff has also prepared a downtown market study for the Town of Dobson in partnership with the NC State College of Design. The Downtown Market Study prepared by PRO staff will complement the streetscape and branding studies completed by the College of Design. PRO staff also completed work with the Towns of Midland and New London on the development of updated land use plans and assisted Montgomery County and the towns of Jonesville and Red Cross develop their first ever land use plans.
PRO staff are currently working on an update of Yadkin County's Land Use Plan and updates to the Town of Mount Gilead and Town of Boonville's development regulations.
