Community Development
The Community Development Division provides resources and services for economic prosperity, growth management, and customized community development assistance.
The N.C. Department of Commerce provides local communities with a variety of resources and services to help them realize economic prosperity, plan for new growth and address community needs.
The Division's professionals meet with local leaders to provide customized community development assistance.
Representatives of local governments, non-profits and development corporations rely on these services, administered by the N.C. Department of Commerce, to help them:
- Revitalize downtowns through the North Carolina Main Street Center and the Small Town Main Street Program
- Create a community vision and plan for future development with our Community Planning Program
- Upgrade infrastructure, foster entrepreneurship and provide housing opportunities with Community Development Grants
- Develop a strategy for economic success through programs of the Rural Development Division
- Provide social and economic support to local entities and non-profits in Appalachia through the Appalachian Regional Commission
