General Counsel John Hoomani
John Hoomani was appointed General Counsel for the N.C. Department of Commerce on July 15, 2013. Hoomani advises the Secretary and other members of the Department on any legal issues affecting the Department, including personnel and legislative issues.
Hoomani has extensive experience in State Government, having served as Deputy General Counsel and General Counsel for Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry at the N.C. Department of Labor for nearly 10 years.
Hoomani received his bachelor’s degree in political science from N.C. State University and his law degree from Campbell University.
Following law school, Hoomani clerked for three different judges at the N.C. Court of Appeals and N.C. Supreme Court: The Honorable Ralph A. Walker and The Honorable Robert C. Hunter at the N.C. Court of Appeals, and The Honorable George S. Wainwright at the N.C. Supreme Court. He has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since 1997.
