Director of Strategic & Economic Communications Kim Genardo
Kim Genardo joined the North Carolina Department of Commerce team in February 2014 to take on two major initiatives for the state; the new North Carolina state brand and job/workforce development.
Genardo will serve as our state brand steward by leading the development, communication and implementation of the new North Carolina economic development brand. She is also guiding the state’s efforts to improve communications around job creation, job availability and workforce development. Genardo is responsible for the daily operations of Commerce communications and marketing.
She joined the Office of the Governor in February of 2013 as Governor Pat McCrory’s Communications Director before being tapped for this new role.
The majority of Genardo’s career was in journalism. She worked in television news for more than 20 years. She was the weekend evening news anchor at WNCN-TV in Raleigh and reported daily on the North Carolina General Assembly along with the latest issues affecting our state. Genardo also worked as a weekend anchor and reporter at WGHP-TV in Greensboro.
Genardo graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
Throughout her career, Kim has enjoyed charitable work and public speaking. She has worked with the American Business Women's Association, the American Cancer Society, law enforcement's DARE programs and several other organizations.
Genardo and her husband Kurt have two children.
