The North Carolina Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) helps small business owners meet the challenges of today’s competitive business climate with business counseling and management education services.
Last year, over 10,000 North Carolinians were served. SBTDC clients attracted $141 million in debt, equity and other financial support and secured $850 million in government contracts. North Carolina also had a 78% increase in Phase I federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awards to small businesses.
The Center offers management counseling through 17 offices across the state, each affiliated with a college or university. SBDTC services include management counseling to help with:
- General counseling – Help with financing, marketing human resources, operations, business planning and feasibility assessment.
- Management education – Providing targeted, research-based educational products focused on change management, strategic performance and leadership development.
- Business research – Research and marketing support for SBDTC clients, primary research on small business needs and economic impact, and special projects such as small business incubator feasibility studies.
- Government procurement – Comprehensive assistance in selling your products and services to federal, state and local governments.
- Export financial services – Helping business with export financing.
- Boating industry – Business and regulatory services to marinas, boatyards, boat dealers, boat builders, marina construction firms and product/service providers.
- Technology commercialization and SBIR – assisting technology businesses through management counseling and Small business Innovation Research (SBIR) outreach.
