Growth Management

Tools for development in your town or county

DCA planners provide local governments with on-going assistance in the development and implementation of growth management tools, such as zoning ordinances, subdivisions ordinances, and capital improvement plans.  These tools are important because they are the primary avenue through which the goals and policies identified in the land use plan are implemented.  Therefore, the land development patterns that result from the implementation of the ordinances should be consistent with the community’s vision.

Regional offices can provide assistance developing the following tools:

  • Zoning Ordinances
  • Subdivision Ordinances
  • Capital Improvements Plans
  • Annexation and Incorporation Studies
  • Minimum Housing Codes
  • Adequate Public Facilities Ordinances
  • Special Growth Management Ordinances

PROJECT HIGHTLIGHTS

Town of Yadkinville Land Use Plan and Development Ordinances:  The Piedmont Regional Office staff provided assistance with development of an updated land use plan for the Town of Yadkinville, which was adopted in fall of 2005. Development of the plan included two well attended community meetings, one of which involved students from the two County high schools and monthly Land Use Plan Committee meetings. Staff also provided assistance with a comprehensive update of the town’s zoning and subdivision ordinances, which have since been adopted by the town.
