Develop Sports Venues and Events

From amateur events to international championships, North Carolina is a premier sports event destination.

From amateur events to international championships, North Carolina can provide the perfect location for any sports event. The state is home to world-class venues, world champion professional sports, superior amateur sports and the best collegiate sports in America. 

 

The N.C. Department of Commerce’s Sports Development Office works with individuals, communities and other partners to promote our state as a premier destination for:

  • Sports-related events
  • Sports association headquarters
  • Sports-related conferences
  • Sports-related businesses
  • Sports franchises

 

The department brings new sporting events to the state and enhances and retains existing teams and sports venues by:

 

  • Assisting organizations and event owners with the recruitment and placement of sporting events
  • Working with existing teams and statewide events to promote new initiatives
  • Using sports-related trade shows to promote awareness of North Carolina as an event destination
  • Promoting www.sportsnc.com as a resource for publicity and information about sports-related events and organizations
  • Creating and distributing press materials to sports media contacts.
  • Producing Sports Facilities Guides for distribution to event owners with potential new sporting events
  • Maintaining a photo library resource
  • Coordinating letters of support from governmental bodies for bid proposals

 

North Carolina boasts excellent facilities, including an international golf resort area.  The state has hosted the U.S. Olympic Festival, Special Olympics World Games, and both the men’s and women’s U.S. Open golf tournaments.  The state has a strong corporate base for sponsorships and is home to several universities who are well-known for winning national championships.
