Customer Service Training

Target Audience: All JobLink Career Center staff and partners who deal directly with customers.


Course Format: Traditional Classroom


Description: This course presents the elements of quality customer service in a JobLink Career Center. Included in the content are: identifying your customer base, identifying customer needs, meeting customer expectations, dealing effectively with emotional interpersonal exchanges. The course focuses on those skills and methods that can be useful in the JobLink Career Center, dealing with a broad cross-section of the community and people who are often experiencing high stress levels.

Description: Assessment is the foundation of case management. This workshop incorporates information on basic principles and components of a comprehensive assessment; comparison of traditional and asset-based assessment; strategies to engage the customer in the process; how to use small group activities; the role of the participant in self-discovery; effective goal setting; and more.

Cultural Competence for Career Counselors:  Serving N.C. Latino Community

This workshop introduces you to the world of the Latino immigrant and helps you put cultural differences into a useful context. Through interactive exercises and group discussion you will have the opportunity to take an honest look at your own perceptions. Skills acquired will be beneficial in your day-to-day interactions with Latino customers, as well as those from other cultures.

Workforce Plus 101

Target Audience: Staff who use the Workforce Plus data system for WIA reporting requirements.


Course Format: Hands-on in computer lab.


Description: This is an introductory course to familiarize WIA staff with the basic system for data collection in the WIA programs. Information on data validation may be included. The course may be tailored to focus on application for a specific customer group, such as youth, adult or dislocated workers.


Information:
Trainers are staff of the MIS & Performance Unit of the Division of Employment & Training (DET). Some courses may focus on specific needs of staff working with populations such as Youth and Dislocated Workers.

JobLink 101

Target Audience: New JobLink Career Center staff, management and partners; new Board members; anyone in the workforce development system in need of a refresher on the basics.


Course Format: Interactive lecture; PowerPoint.


Description: This course is designed as an introduction to the basics of N.C. JobLink Career Center. The course is delivered through a PowerPoint presentation and interactive lecture. The content includes the following: the history of the JobLink Career Centers in N.C.; the basic legislative foundation; governance of the workforce development system; roles of the partners; services offered in the JobLink Career Centers; an overview of the JobLink Career Center chartering process; and a summary of new initiatives.


Information: Trainers are members of the JobLink Career Centers Unit of the Commission on Workforce Development.

Disability Awareness and Sensitivity Training

Course Format: Traditional classroom


Description: This session is designed to enhance understanding of the principle of "universal access". Some areas included are how to recognize and understand a variety of special needs, how to enhance your comfort zone, developing strategies to assist businesses with reasonable accommodation and other resources, and how to build capacity within your team for effectively serving persons with disabilities.

This session is facilitated by a team of your peers who have been trained especially for this presentation.

Career Development Facilitator

Target Audience:
Workforce dev staff wishing to learn job-related skills and earn a nationally-accepted credential.


Course Format: Combination of classroom, distance learning, and independent project.


Description: The Career Development Facilitator course is designed to standardize the knowledge and experience of individuals who are working in workforce training and other career development services. The 120-hour course is based on a nationally accepted curriculum and tailored for N.C. workforce professionals. The course incorporates 24 hours of traditional classroom instruction, 62 hours of distance learning and web-based instruction, and 40 hours of independent study and project completion.

 

Information: Topics Include: Helping skills; Career development models; Assessment; LMI and resources; Technology; Program management; Training clients and peers; Promotion and PR; Ethical and legal issues; Diverse populations; Employment skills; and Accepting supervision.
